At a time when trans and gender diverse experiences are becoming more visible on screens, in theatres, in bookshelves, or in popular culture, with a light shone on coming out, discrimination, surgery and hate crimes, it’s important to to tell stories that focus on more than our gender.
My Trans Story features stories from emerging and established trans and gender diverse speakers, and we’re here to tell you there’s plenty more to our stories; they’re human stories full of love, laughter, curiosity, obstacles, explorations, triumphs and hope.
Conceived and produced by TPA patron Peta Friend TPA launched My Trans Story (then Trans Stories) in 2017 at the Pride Festival at Stonewall.
We then partnered with Mardi Gras and brought in Lisa Freshwater for FEM to produce the show for Mardi Gras including:
2018 – Trans Stories 40 Years
2019 – My Trans Story the Next Generation
2020 – My Trans Story Place and Belonging
In 2019 Brisbane Powerhouse in association with FEM produced My Trans Story with a Brisbane cast.
